I just joined this tribe and wanted to say hi to all. I'm planning my first trip to Belize this Spring, most likely for 7-10 days in April or early May. Looks like I'll probably be going solo, but I would be happy to meet up with any folks who might be there at the time. If anyone has any tips or suggestions for a newbie, I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks!
Ken

Re: New to this Tribe - Planning first Belize trip
Sat, November 5, 2005 - 2:50 PMHey Kenneth looks like we will be missing each other. I am planing a trip to Belize in Feb. I have been reading Lonley Planet books and reading Tibe post as well as a google list: belize travel journal. It seems like you might be able to hook up with someone through this site...you'll see once you look.
take care and have fun!!

Moon has a new edition of their travel handbook. The Moon Travel series is really excellent for backcountry tramps. Yeah, they'll tell you about the big resorts, too, but their main emphasis seems to be the backpacker/hostel traveller. I recommend both Lonley Planet and Moon highly.
A surprisingly good reference is Fodor's. Normally, Fodor's is oriented at the "tour bus" crowd, but this one's got more substance for the adventurous wanderer. A fellow named Lan Sluder writes about Belize for Fodor's and he's got a clue.

Mon, November 14, 2005 - 10:45 AMThanks for the info and URLs! I just picked up the new Moon edition this weekend.
I'm keeping my dates open right now because of work and class commitments, but will keep you posted. I'd actually like to go in Feb. or March if possible, but that might be a bit of a crunch.

Re: New to this Tribe - Planning first Belize trip
Fri, November 11, 2005 - 11:22 AMKenneth,
right now I'm looking at the full moon in March, on the 14th. However, if that gets pushed back to April, maybe we can tramp around together for a while. The full moon's important because that's when the Whale Sharks come in to feed. I've always wanted to get a few photos of those. If I understand it correctly, they're the biggest fish left on the planet.
