I'm going to Belize the week after thanksgiving, and I've been looking at Tobacco Caye and thinking of staying there 3 or 4 days (in addition to San Ignacio, Placencia and San Pedro).
I understand that all he accomodations on the Caye are pretty basic, but I'm wondering if it is worth the extra $40 per day to stay at the Tobacco Caye lodge, as opposed to Oceans Edge.

Re: Anybody here been to Tobacco Caye?
Thu, October 20, 2005 - 10:53 AMYup, in fact the main pic for this tribe was taken there. By far, my favorite place in Belize that I have visited.
I forget the name of the place we stayed at, but it was by far the best one for the price. When you get off the boat, head straight across the island away from the dock. It's the place a tad bit on the right from there and on the other side of the island (it's tiny so you won't be walking far). There is a couple huts right on the beach. I think they are pink and blue. Hope that helps... my data is also a few years old so the status of the hotels might have changed since then.
Hope that helps!

There is other ones there that are more expensive and probably more featureful, but this one had the best local vibe imho. I really liked the little standalone hut on the beach.
