I tell everyone that comes to visit me not to fly into Belize, but to fly into Cancun instead. I had one friend save $800 that way... Here in Belize we are pretty much pricing ourselves out of the tourism industry. Oh well...

in order to get the connections I wanted (ones without long layover), I ended up coughing up $650 each including all the taxes and fees. (base price was 547). I don't believe it included the belize exit tax, however. I am flying TACA for the first time on the next trip- usually fly through houston. This time will change planes in San Salvador. My son only got a week of vacation, so didn't want to spend 10-13 hours layover of most tickets) in another airport, and wanted to fly out in the middle of the night, and back in the evening.
